During Rwanda's Kwibuka31 genocide commemoration week, UMST University hosted a powerful public lecture bringing together survivors, students, academics, and community leaders to reflect on the past and commit to a peaceful future.
Survivor Rosalie Ufitinema moved attendees with her testimony: "Survival is our loudest voice. We must ensure that what happened here is never forgotten and never repeated."
Speakers emphasised the particular responsibility of young people and educational institutions in building peaceful, just societies and in actively resisting the conditions that allow atrocities to occur. UMST's participation in Kwibuka reflects the university's deep integration into Rwandan community life and its commitment to the values of truth, justice, and reconciliation.
