UMST was honored to host a high-level delegation led by Dr. Menelas, Head of the Health Workforce Development Department at Rwanda’s Ministry of Health, accompanied by Ms. Hana Girma, Executive Secretary of the King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation.
The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to engage with medical students supported through the Foundation's sponsorship programs and gain firsthand insight into their academic experiences, aspirations, and commitment to serving Rwanda’s healthcare sector.
During the visit, the delegation toured UMST’s training facilities and medical education equipment, highlighting the university’s continued investment in providing quality, hands-on training for future healthcare professionals. The visitors were also briefed on the university’s academic programs, student support initiatives, and ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare workforce development.
A particularly inspiring moment of the visit was the interaction with sponsored students, who shared their educational journeys and future career goals. Impressed by the students’ determination and clarity of purpose, Ms. Hana Girma remarked:
“I like the confidence and focus of the young students. They already know what they want for themselves and for Rwanda.”
The delegation also held productive discussions with UMST management on expanding collaboration in medical education, student support, clinical training opportunities, and initiatives aimed at strengthening Rwanda’s healthcare workforce.
Speaking after the visit, university leadership expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and support provided by the Ministry of Health and the King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation. Such collaborations play a vital role in creating opportunities for talented students and enhancing the quality of healthcare education in the country.
UMST extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Menelas, Ms. Hana Girma, and their delegation for their visit, encouragement, and commitment to developing the next generation of healthcare professionals. The university looks forward to further strengthening this partnership in pursuit of excellence in medical education and improved healthcare outcomes for Rwanda and the region.
